The Hal Saflieni Hypogeum is an underground prehistoric burial site located in the town of Paola on the island of Malta. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most important archaeological sites in Malta.
Visitors can only enter the Hypogeum with a guided tour, and reservations must be made in advance as only a limited number of visitors are allowed each day. Tours last approximately 90 minutes and include a visit to the three levels of the underground complex.
The admission fee for the Hypogeum varies depending on the season and type of tour, but generally ranges from €30-40 for adults. Children under 6 years old are not permitted to enter the site.
It is recommended to visit the Hypogeum early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid crowds and to bring warm clothing as the temperature underground can be quite chilly.
In the surrounding area, visitors can also explore the Tarxien Temples, a complex of megalithic temples dating back to 3600 BC. The temples are open to visitors daily from 9am-5pm and admission is €6 for adults and €3 for children.
